Rauber Ranch
Arroyo Seco, California
Residential
This existing residential property sits 1600 feet above sea level on the crest of a rolling hill in Arroyo Seco, California. The views are an obvious full 360 degrees around with the tremendously steep nature of the mountains as the main challenge facing this location.
Existing stone found on the property was repurposed throughout to create substantial retaining walls which helped to enlarge the pool deck area between the two houses, allowing for safe expansion. The California Redwood deck over the pool equipment poses as the main element to enlarge the usable space and created a purely unobstructed view of the extensive surrounding terrain. Hog fencing was used along the deck edge to protect the views and the tiny humans distracted by the gorgeous landscape. Fencing continued from the deck towards the South facing side of the property where the newly installed garden bed area was properly protected.
Roy Diblik is an American perrenial garden designer and plant nurseryman. Inspiration drawn from this designer was perfect for the vegetative hillside on the southern end of the property — repurposing native plants already thriving and scattered among the mountains.
Manzanita Trees natively grows by the droves among the entire mountainous area of Arroyo Seco. Neighboring trees, both far and near, were transplanted onto the property, with the assurance of beauty and longevity for the landscaping.
